PBO-Assisted Case Evaluation

The Fourth APO General Meeting was held at the Convention area of SMX Aura. As the participants consumed the hearty breakfast, they were treated to a stunning view of the metropolis. Needless to say, the venue was the perfect choice for the morning affair.

The event began with the awarding of APO’s Research Grant to CEU resident, Dr. Sheila Bacani by APO President, Dr. Diane Lim. (Thesis: Evaluation of Root Resorption Using Dentin Sialophosphoprotein During Leveling and Aligning of Orthodontic Treatment) This was followed by the announcement of APO’s donation to the Nordhoff Foundation in support of its commitment to the rehabilitation of cleft lip and palate patients.
After a brief overview of the Philippine Board of Orthodontics’ examination process and testing dates by PBO chair. Dr. Marianne Hernandez, the “Case Evaluation” exercise was commenced.

The attendees were divided into six groups of twelve . Each table was assigned two PBO diplomates to assist the members with their potential board cases. Issues involving diagnosis, case selection and presentation, discrepancy index usage and pertinent details regarding the various PBO requirements were discussed in depth. Although a full hour was allotted for this activity, the members felt that they needed more time. The exercise was a fruitful learning experience for most as they were also able to ask the more experienced members about treatment planning for their potential board cases. As a result, some attendees requested for similar activities in the future to improve camaraderie and encourage the exchange of ideas among peers.
