APO Members who are Honorary Fellows of the Asian Pacific Orthodontic Society:
- 2016: Dr. Crissie C Santayana and Dr. Somchai Satravaha
- 2018: Renato Africa (+)
Starting tentatively as a 9-country orthodontic group in 2001, the Asian Pacific Orthodontic Society (APOS) has blossomed and grown to its present international roster of 18 Affiliate Members. APOS’ present success has been due to the guidance and singularity of purpose provided by key individuals. Recognizing and appreciating their exemplary leadership and contribution to the APOS, the distinction of Honorary Fellow, APOS was created and Three of our APO members hold that honor.
In 2016 the APOS Executive Council in Bali, Indonesia during the 10th Asian Pacific Orthodontic Conference (APOC) awarded to our former APO President, Dr. Crissie C. Santayana, the status of Honorary Fellow, APOS. Her award had the citation:
“To this day the meeting protocols you developed for the APOS are still followed. As Secretary General, you showed us to be proud of our region and you organized the running of the APOS into what it is now.”
Likewise Prof. Dr. Somchai Satravaha, a lecturer to past APO seminars, had transcended her professional relationship with APO to a personal friendship to APO and she is included in our roster as an APO International Member. She too was awarded the status, Honorary Fellow, APOS and her citation was:
“You are the face of orthodontics in the region and beyond. Your contributions are known internationally. As a Past President of the APOS, you led our Society with great distinction.”
In the upcoming March 4-7, 2018 11th Asian Pacific Orthodontic Conference in Boracay, Dr. Renato T. Africa, a former APO President who passed away in 2015 will posthumously be awarded the distinction, Honorary Fellow, APOS and his citation will read:
“You demonstrated extreme passion, love and dedication to the organization of Orthodontics as a Specialty; first in the Philippines and then as part of the APOS. Your legacy to both organizations are its Logos that embody the very essence of what we stand for.”
