PRC-BOD recognizes 59 APO members as Orthodontic Specialists

On the occasion of the oath-taking of the new dentists last June 23, 2012 at the Manila Hotel, the Philippine Regulation Commission-Board of Dentistry presented the recognition award to 59 members of the Association of Philippine Orthodontists which singles them out as “bona fide” specialists in the field of orthodontics. Also awarded specialists were the members of the Philippine Prosthodontic Society.

The event was graced by the presence of Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. who addressed his keynote speech to the newly inducted dentists. It is truly poignant to watch the young dentists march with their accompanying parent or guardian to receive their hard-earned professional certificates. This is especially true of the board top-notchers who did their parents proud. Interestingly there were prominent dentists which include PDA President Dr. Arturo de Leon, Dean Giuan and others whose children were inducted on this day.

The second part of the event was the historical awarding of specialists by the PRC-Board of Dentistry. It has been over a year ago when the PRC-BOD accredited the APO as the only orthodontic specialty group in the Philippines. The awarding of pins and certificates to individual APO members by the board headed by Chairman Dr. Gloria Bumanlag is an integral step that marks the stamp of approval on the fellows and diplomates of the association who are now duly recognized as orthodontic specialists with adequate training and good moral and professional standing and whose practice are limited to orthodontics. We look forward to more APO members receiving this same recognition in the near future.
