1st joint APO-PSP Meeting: A Collaborative Approach to Treating the Ortho-Perio Patient

Last June 5, 2023, the Association of Philippine Orthodontists and Philippine Society of Periodontology conducted an online seminar with a theme “Oh…My Bone, Where Art Thou?” The one day seminar comprehensively showed the attendees the importance of periodontal support in the treatment of different types of malocclusions. The 3 foreign speakers provided scientific evidence on dealing with periodontically compromised patients and the proper management of the case without aggravating the condition of the patient. The speakers also presented innovative ways of accelerating tooth movement without damaging the periodontal support and different gingival phenotypes were shown and their proper management to prevent severe damage to the periodontal support during orthodontic treatment.

Aside from the periodontal aspects, several impacted cases were presented to show how to retrieve the impacted teeth without gingival recession and root resorption to the impacted teeth and its adjacent teeth. Several clinical cases were also presented to the attendees to showcase the treatment protocol from the perspective of the periodontists and orthodontists. A total of 272 delegates attended the joint seminar of the two associations.
